The Jazz Jam turned out to be better than expected following the Thanksgiving Holiday. We occupied the new much larger room at Holiday Isle as promised and everyone was pleased with the drinks, food and especially at the wood dance floor. The musicians were also happy at the ability to sit in and play as long as they wished.

Go to the following, print out the “Join” form and join or contribute to SAJS for 2012. Remember, the funds pay for Summer Camp, Tuition or Grants for young musicians wanting to learn Jazz. Merry Christmas!

A Message From Our New President

I want to thank everyone for their vote of confidence in me in the election for President of the St. Augustine Jazz Society. I feel very honored to serve in this position and will work very hard to make it one of the best in the area.

I want to encourage everyone to feel free to make suggestions and share your ideas as to how we can make the Society better. And to all the wonderful musicians and singers, please be aware that we are changing the format for sitting in during the jams and I feel sure you will be pleased with the changes. Additionally we plan to bring in visiting artists for special programs from time to time.

We also want to have many more social activities.Some have suggested a bus trip to New Orleans Jazz Festival, a Mardi Gras Dance, and maybe a river cruise with food and music by our local musicians. There are many things that we can do to make membership very enjoyable and profitable.

This is your Jazz Society and together we can make it great again.

See you at the “Jam” on Sunday Nov. 27th.

Hi Jazz Fans,

Finally, the doldrums are over and the house was packed with standing room only.
Apparently most people like the Holiday Isle venue and indicate the acoustics are much better. There was no room to dance and photos were difficult to take due to lack of space.

The band for Sunday Oct. 30 was composed of the following:

Kenny MacKenzie – piano
John Pellegrino – bass
Scott Mariash – drums

In addition, the following musicians and singers were and I hope I didn’t leave anyone out:

Drums: Bill Doyle, Ed Trester

Horns: Ed “T-Bone” Henson trombone, Bill Prince sax and trumpet, Gil Surette Clarinet,
Greg Wier sax and flute.

Vocalist: Robbie Moore and Joyce Lundgren (may have missed some).

It was apparent when the three horn players, Ed, Bill and Gil got together to play the house jumped. We need more group players according to the audience reaction.

Don’t miss the General Meeting November 14 at the Beaches City Hall on A1A Near the Police Department. The date had to be moved due to lack of an available room due to local elections and Jack Pierson gig on Nov. 7.

As a reminder, this Jazz Jam is the last of the year due to the many upcoming December holidays. Also there is no Jazz Jams in May for the same reasons.

Re: the lack of room at Holiday Isle. Cindy Pierson asked for the larger room and apparently the word did not get to the staff. Next time we should have a larger room.

We hope to see you on the next Jazz Jam, Sunday, November 27 from 2to 6:00 p.m.
